Passengers using rail services across London and Cambridgeshire are being reminded to check before travelling this Christmas for planned engineering work taking place which may affect rail journeys. 

Passengers are reminded that a far-reaching package of engineering work will affect journeys over the next three weekends.

Work gets underway this weekend on a major £4.5m upgrade to the Kyle of Lochalsh railway in the Highlands. 

Passengers in Berkshire and North Surrey will face changes to their journeys during October half-term, from Saturday 25 October to Friday 31 October, while Network Rail carries out major upgrades on the lines between Wokingham and Reading as well as between Staines and Windsor with buses replacing trains during the work.

Passengers are another step closer to benefiting from the multi-million-pound overhaul of Salford Crescent station to improve journeys from next year. 

Crawshaw Woods Bridge near Leeds is the oldest cast-iron railway bridge in the world to still be in use over a live railway, and last weekend (October 11-12), engineers carefully moved it as part of the multi-billion-pound Transpennine Route Upgrade.

Southeastern and Southern passengers are being reminded to plan ahead this October half-term if travelling on the Hastings line between Tunbridge Wells and Hastings, and between Bexhill-on-Sea and Hastings.

Network Rail has completed vital bridge works near Manningtree and replaced key overhead line infrastructure to help keep trains running safely and reliably for decades to come.
