Network Rail is beginning its annual autumn operation across Scotland to help keep trains running reliably during the railway's most challenging time of year.

Passengers are being reminded to plan ahead for changes to train services in Fife next month as Network Rail carries out a major phase of work to modernise the railway. 

Engineers are set to carry out £9m of upgrades and repairs on the Kyle line and at Inverness station later this year, with the railway closing between Dingwall and Kyle of Lochalsh for three weeks. 

The West Highland Line, one of Scotland's most famous railway routes, will close for nine days this November while Network Rail carries out £13m worth of upgrades to help keep the line running safely and reliably.

Network Rail has reached an important milestone in its work to strengthen Scotland's railway against extreme weather, investing £130m in resilience over the last two years.

A £13.5m project to upgrade the track at Kilmarnock station begins this weekend, aiming to improve reliability for passengers travelling between Glasgow, Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway.

There's just one month to go until the new Balgray station opens in Barrhead, welcoming its first passengers on Sunday 27 September.
