A series of rail and road closures taking place at various times between 27 September and 13 November will affect rail users and drivers between Guildford and Portsmouth , as Network Rail engineers complete the final stage of the Portsmouth Direct signalling upgrade between Farncombe and Petersfield.

Passengers travelling through Stoke-on-Trent are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys while essential repairs take place to both of the station's lifts from Monday 29 September for approximately two weeks.

Passengers in Berkshire and North Surrey will face changes to their journeys during October half-term, from Saturday 25 October to Friday 31 October, while Network Rail carries out major upgrades on the lines between Wokingham and Reading as well as between Staines and Windsor with buses replacing trains during the work.

Passengers are being advised of a full railway closure through Stockport over the first weekend in October as work continues on a major £20m bridge renewal over the West Coast Main Line.

Network Rail is urging spectators to stay off the tracks and enjoy a safe day out during the Stockton & Darlington Railway Anniversary Journey this weekend.

A special fleet of leaf-busting trains has this week begun working across Kent and Sussex to keep the railway running safely and reliably.

Network Rail will be carrying out emergency work to replace a faulty rail between Chadwell Heath and Shenfield this Sunday 28 September.

Buses will replace trains during the four-week closure, from the end of September, to remove high-risk trees and improve safety.
