Reading unites to keep local people warm this winter
This winter, Reading’s Winter Warmer programme is inviting everyone — from town centre businesses to local residents — to donate warm clothing and help make a real difference to people in need across Reading.
Storm Goretti: Some rail routes in south west suspended and passengers urged to check before travelling
- All trains in Cornwall to be suspended from 6pm this evening because of an amber weather warning for strong winds
- Trains between Exeter and Okehampton and Exeter and Barnstaple also to be suspended from 6pm because of forecast high wind speeds- passengers are advised to travel earlier and not to attempt travel late this afternoon
- Replacement road transport will not be available as road conditions are expected to be at risk
- Services on these routes are expected to be disrupted on Friday morning – please check before travelling
- All other routes are expected to operate as normal but passengers are advised to check before travelling through this evening and Friday morning
Railway junction near Slough reopens following successful completion of improvement work
The railway line at a junction between Slough and Reading (Dolphin Junction) has reopened this morning (Sunday 4 January) following the successful completion of Network Rail’s essential engineering work, which took place over the festive period.
REMINDER: Railway in the west open for business over Christmas but passengers urged to plan ahead
Trains will continue to operate as normal for most passengers across the west this Christmas, but passengers are being reminded to plan their journeys before travelling and book ahead if possible.

Train services resume between Taunton and Castle Cary following drainage work
Network Rail’s seven-day upgrade in the Somerton area is complete. On Monday 8 December engineers began work to replace a section of drainage under nearly 600 metres of the line. Work finished on time overnight, allowing train services to resume through the area this morning.
