Passengers travelling between Slough and Windsor this September are urged to check their journeys in advance as essential track upgrade work takes place over several weekends.

Network Rail engineers will replace track and carry out vital maintenance in the Slough station area to help maintain a safe and reliable railway for passengers travelling between Slough and Windsor, as well as between Reading and London Paddington.

What passengers need to know

On the following dates, trains will not run between Slough and Windsor & Eton Central:

  • Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September
  • Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September
  • Sunday 20 September

On these dates, replacement buses will operate between Slough and Windsor & Eton Riverside. Passengers may also travel between Reading and Windsor & Eton Riverside using South Western Railway services via Staines on Saturday 5 September, Saturday 12 September and Sunday 20 September.

During the work, train services between Reading and London Paddington will operate to amended timetables, as only two of the four tracks through the area will be available.

Services between Reading and London Paddington will also be amended on Sunday 27 September - although trains between Slough and Windsor & Eton Central will operate normally on that date.

Mark Morrison, lead portfolio manager for Network Rail's Great Western Route, said: "This September, we're carrying out essential track renewal work in the Slough area to help keep the railway safe, reliable, and fit for the future.

"While this work takes place there will be an amended timetable in operation, so passengers are advised to check before travelling and to allow extra time to complete their journeys.

"I'd like to thank passengers and the local community for their patience while we complete these vital improvements."

Mian Sarwar, GWR station manager for Slough and Maidenhead, said: "These rail improvements are important to maintain train services for the communities and passengers who depend on them.

"Trains cannot run between Slough and Windsor & Eton Central on these dates, and services between Reading and London Paddington will also be affected. Rail replacement services will operate to Windsor & Eton Riverside station, which offers greater flexibility for passengers.”

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
