Passengers are being urged to check before they travel ahead of Network Rail’s final phase of work to modernise signals in Devon and Cornwall and improve the resilience of the railway in the South West.

Work to build the first station in Ashley Down in 60 years has hit a “critical milestone”, according to regional Mayor Dan Norris. Funded by the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority, ‘Ashley Down Station’ is being built on the site of the previous Ashley Hill station which closed in 1964 due to the Beeching Cuts.

In February 2014, a devastating storm battered the south Devon coastline at Dawlish, cutting off the only railway line to the south west for eight weeks.

Residents are welcome to attend an event at the Hotel Victoria in Newquay on

• Friday 9 February (10am - 7pm) and
• Saturday 10 February (10am - 4pm)

when they'll be able to take a virtual reality balloon ride to ‘see’ for themselves how the Mid Cornwall Metro, funded by Cornwall Council and £50m of government Levelling Up Funding, will create a sustainable transport corridor through central Cornwall.
