Fans of the famous Flying Scotsman steam locomotive are being urged to keep off the tracks and enjoy a safe day out when the recently renovated engine begins tours of the south east from London next week.

State-of-the-art safety equipment has been installed at the White Hart Lane level crossing by Network Rail and Richmond Council. The aim is to reduce the high levels of dangerous misuse which is currently taking place.

Rail passengers can look forward to better journeys as Network Rail’s work to improve and upgrade the railway continues over the spring bank holiday weekend (28-30 May).

A new railway bridge over Aldershot High Street is to be painted blue and red by Network Rail engineers in a nod to the town’s historic army garrison and football club.

The railway line between Farnham and Alton has been re-opened earlier than anticipated thanks to round-the-clock working by Network Rail’s orange army, during another busy Bank Holiday weekend for its railway engineers.

Network Rail expects to re-open the railway line between Farnham and Alton on Wednesday 4 May, five days earlier than originally planned after a small army of engineers worked around the clock to stabilise the track at Wrecclesham.
