December may be a time of drinks after work and Christmas parties, but one man from Southampton is urging everyone to stay safe if they’re planning on using the railway this Christmas after he barely escaped with his own life when he fell onto an electrified rail.

Network Rail continues its support for the prestigious Landscape Photographer of the Year competition with the opening of an exhibition of the best entries from 2016 launching at London Waterloo station this evening (Monday 21 November).

Passengers using Whitton station will now benefit from £5 million worth of upgrades at their station, after Network Rail’s route managing director, Becky Lumlock, officially marked the completion of the final phase of the upgrade – a new, fully-accessible footbridge – alongside MP for Twickenham, Dr Tania Mathias, and representatives from Richmond Borough Council, the  Rugby Football Union and South West Trains.

Network Rail is advising passengers to the south and west of London to plan their journeys as early as possible this Christmas. This is ahead of a programme of upgrade work taking place on the country’s rail network over the Christmas period.

Shyam Patel, a project manager at Network Rail, is calling on young people to consider a career in the railway as Network Rail marks Tomorrow’s Engineers Week 2016 (7-11 November 2016), a national week designed to shine a spotlight on engineers and engineering careers.
