Almost three miles of railway tracks are set to be upgraded this month in a £3.2million investment to bring smoother, on-time journeys for passengers travelling through Scarborough.

A brand-new customer information point has been formally opened in Leeds station to deliver a better experience and offer more support for passengers.

The largest rail project in the North of England, the Transpennine Route Upgrade between Manchester and York, has announced Neil Holm as its Managing Director.

Work to remove historic bottlenecks, increase resilience and improve reliability continues on the Hope Valley Railway Upgrade as the new year begins.

The Transpennine Route Upgrade is on track to better, more reliable journeys after Network Rail delivered improvements over Christmas and New Year between Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York.

• With RMT strikes planned on Christmas Eve, trains will stop much earlier than usual
• Passengers should only take the train if it’s absolutely necessary, expect disruption and travel the day before wherever they can
• Services will start much later than usual on 27 December

The 132-year-old canopy at the main entrance of Knaresborough station has been repaired and restored to keep it looking its best for future generations. 

Over 30 miles of train-powering electric wires are now in place to help deliver cleaner, greener journeys in the future as part of the multi-billion-pound Transpennine Route Upgrade.
