Lift re-opens at Bradford railway station

Bradford’s busiest rail station is now fully accessible again after storm-battered equipment was successfully repaired.
Water from the roof of Bradford Forster Square found its way into the shaft at the School Street entrance, resulting in the lift requiring new ropes, pulleys and doors and leaving the lifts out of action - to the dismay of passengers.
But after months of work, skilled engineers have now completed the repairs and safety checks, meaning passengers no longer have to use the alternate step-free access via Cheapside and can use all of the station’s facilities in full.
Richard Scrivener, asset engineer for Network Rail’s North and East route said: "This turned out to be a much bigger repair than first met the eye – the rain-soaked lift needed major work to get it back up and running and I want to express my sincere thanks to passengers for their patience while we’ve been on site.
“This is an exciting time for Bradford, particularly as we build to 2025 and the introduction of the new platform, so to have the station back to full accessibility is something we’re pleased about.”
Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport said: “We are pleased that the lift is once again open, giving greater access for passengers to the station from this area of the city centre.”

About Network Rail
We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.
Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
