Reopening Castleford rail station’s second platform moves a step closer this October, after being closed for more than 20 years, to boost capacity and reliability for passengers.

Beverley station’s 130-year-old Grade II-listed footbridge will close this week to keep station users, train drivers and passengers safe, before being sympathetically refurbished next year.

Passengers at Selby station, managed by TransPennine Express, will soon benefit from major accessibility improvements, as preparations are made to install brand-new lifts and strengthen the Grade II listed footbridge.

Passengers will be able to continue to move between Manchester and Huddersfield via diversionary routes, as two weekends of essential track work to transform train journeys through Stalybridge starts this September.

Network Rail is urgently pleading parents to hammer home the dangers of trespass and antisocial behaviour on the railway.

Huddersfield has moved one step closer to welcoming cleaner, greener and more efficient electric trains this week, as a new, improved bridge was installed near Deighton railway station.

• Rail passengers in Yorkshire and the North East are urged to plan ahead this Thursday (18 Aug) and Saturday (20 Aug) as a limited timetable will be available  
• Amid national industrial action, only around 10% of services will run between 7:30am and 6:30pm and some routes will be closed completely 
• Passengers should check before they travel, expect disruption and only travel if necessary  

A major investment to protect the railway from erosion by the River Tyne and allow a popular footpath to reopen will get underway this month.
