Crawshaw Woods Bridge near Leeds is the oldest cast-iron railway bridge in the world to still be in use over a live railway, and last weekend (October 11-12), engineers carefully moved it as part of the multi-billion-pound Transpennine Route Upgrade.

Strong interest has already been shown in this year’s Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) Community Fund, and local community groups, schools and charities are urged to apply now before applications close – or earlier if capacity is reached.

A weekend of engineering work to install new track and sleepers will affect journeys between the East Midlands and Skegness.

A major infrastructure upgrade is taking place to strengthen two platforms at Chesterfield station.

Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), with Siemens Mobility, has updated its entire fleet of 25 Class 717 Great Northern trains to run in passenger service using an updated specification of the in-cab digital signalling software, European Train Control System (ETCS).

Passengers are reminded that journeys will be affected this weekend (11 and 12 October) as another step forward is made in Darlington station’s £140 million transformation.

Passengers travelling on EMR’s Intercity route this weekend (Saturday 4 October and Sunday 5 October) are advised to allow more time to travel. Rail replacement buses will run between East Midlands Parkway and Leicester due to infrastructure improvement works taking place.

Customers are being urged to check before they travel as work between Dewsbury and York throughout October and November means there will be changes to services.
