A major infrastructure upgrade is taking place to strengthen two platforms at Chesterfield station.

Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), with Siemens Mobility, has updated its entire fleet of 25 Class 717 Great Northern trains to run in passenger service using an updated specification of the in-cab digital signalling software, European Train Control System (ETCS).

Passengers are reminded that journeys will be affected this weekend (11 and 12 October) as another step forward is made in Darlington station’s £140 million transformation.

Passengers travelling on EMR’s Intercity route this weekend (Saturday 4 October and Sunday 5 October) are advised to allow more time to travel. Rail replacement buses will run between East Midlands Parkway and Leicester due to infrastructure improvement works taking place.

Customers are being urged to check before they travel as work between Dewsbury and York throughout October and November means there will be changes to services.

A wide range of rail improvement projects will affect passenger journeys on three consecutive weekends.

This morning, the first passenger train arrived at the newly rebuilt platforms at Huddersfield Station, marking a major milestone in Phase One of the station upgrades. This achievement takes customers one step closer to faster, cleaner, more reliable trains across the North.
