Railway improvement work in Derbyshire and Staffordshire will affect passenger services over the next two weekends, with some journeys requiring a replacement bus.

Passengers are expected to benefit from improved punctuality and even more reliable journeys – with new platforms, enhanced signalling, and technology designed to spot potential overhead line issues among more than 60 initiatives set out in a joint plan to boost performance.

The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) is showcasing some of the organisations from its 2025 Community Fund round, who have used their grants to improve local spaces and places. 

Major improvement works modernising the railway between Morley and Dewsbury in West Yorkshire have taken the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) a step closer to delivering faster, more frequent trains on a more reliable and greener network across the North.

Track renewal, tunnel repairs and groundwork engineering will affect services in West Yorkshire over the weekends of 18-19 and 25-26 July.

Network Rail has issued a media statement following the Rail Accident Investigation Branch's (RAIB) interim statement, published today (Wednesday 24 June), into the Bedford train collision, which occurred on Friday 19 June. 

Network Rail and East Midlands Railway have provided an update from the the scene of the collision in Bedford, with footage available for media. 

Rail passengers planning to travel through Bedford next week are being warned by the rail industry to expect disruption to train services until the end of next week (28 June) and to only travel on this route if their journey is essential.
