London Liverpool Street station was lit-up blue and orange last night (Thursday 23 April) to show solidarity with key workers, including those at Network Rail, train operators and frontline NHS staff all across the country.

New track, sleepers and ballast has been installed at Billericay on the Southend Victoria branch line, which means fewer delays for key workers currently using the line and improved reliability in the long term ready for when passengers return.

Network Rail is inviting the public to send in digital versions of their home-made pictures of rainbows with a railway theme to be displayed at London Liverpool Street station and on screens at stations across Anglia.

Key workers, including NHS staff, can now get to work on a more reliable and resilient railway as work to renew track and points at Maryland has been completed. This means fewer delays and increased reliability on the busy Norwich to London line for years to come.

Network Rail has installed a new overhead wiring system on the Southend Victoria branch line in a £46m upgrade to improve reliability for key workers currently using the line and in the long term when passengers return to work.

Network Rail has thanked people who usually use London Liverpool Street railway station for following government guidance and only travelling when essential as new figures show that footfall at the station has decreased by 95%.

Every week, key workers from Network Rail’s Anglia region enable thousands of tonnes of vital medical supplies, food, drinks and consumer goods to be transported around the country during the Coronavirus outbreak.

Network Rail is appealing for former professional signallers in Essex to help keep the railway running during the coronavirus crisis.
