Network Rail has announced a huge package of improvement work across the region’s rail network today (Tuesday 16 June) to improve reliability of train services for passengers.

With more people cycling and walking as an alternative to using public transport, Network Rail is reminding everyone to stay safe at level crossings as part of International Level Crossings Awareness Day today (Thursday 11 June).

Works to replace worn out track on the line between Norwich and Lowestoft will take place in June and August to provide a better journey experience for passengers. This follows works successfully completed last February to replace 3km of track in the Hassingham area.

Works have been completed along the 49 mile East Suffolk line to install essential new equipment, making level crossings safer and reducing wait times at user worked level crossings.

Network Rail has developed a safety video to bring its safety education programme to schools and communities across Anglia as lockdown measures begin to ease.

Essential rail works have been completed on the Clacton-on-Sea and Walton-on-the-Naze branch lines during the Late May Bank Holiday weekend to improve reliability for those who need to travel and for when more passengers return in the future.

Works have been completed on the Norwich and London mainline near Manningtree to reinforce the embankment and protect the tracks by preventing vegetation and debris falling onto the line. This will help keep the line clear and trains running safely for those who need to travel by train.

Members of the public whose daily exercise involves using level crossings are urged to take extra care this week as rail services have increased.
