Community Rail Partnerships launch new safety poster initiative with Network Rail

A new safety campaign on rural lines in Norfolk and North Suffolk will offer children the opportunity to see their own artwork displayed at railway stations from December as the Bittern Line and Wherry Lines Community Rail Partnerships have teamed up with Network Rail to promote safe use of level crossings.

With school visits still off the cards owing to Covid-19, Network Rail’s community safety manager, Becky Crocker, has produced a safety video to bring her rail safety talks to people’s homes. Families are invited to watch the video which is available at www.networkrail.co.uk/angliasafety and then design a poster with safety messages which could be displayed at stations across the Norfolk area.

During 2019 Network Rail worked with pupils from Lingwood Primary Academy to produce safety posters and some of these will be some of the first to be displayed.

Becky Crocker, Network Rail’s Community Safety Manager for Anglia, said: “I know this is a busy time of year, especially for parents, and my safety video is a good way to distract the kids while teaching them important safety messages. I want to encourage families to watch the video and join in with this exciting initiative.”

Martin Halliday, Community Rail Norfolk Development Officer said: “Both the Bittern Line and Wherry Lines Community Rail Partnerships are delighted to be working with Network Rail to run this superb safety initiative and we are very much looking forward to brightening up stations along our routes with children’s colourful artwork.”

For a chance to have your artwork displayed at a local railway station, please watch the safety message online at www.networkrail.co.uk/angliasafety and use the messaging to produce their own artwork on a A4 sheet of paper. To enter, posters can be sent by post to Community Rail Hub, Lowestoft Railway Station, Lowestoft, Suffolk, NR32 2EG, or a photograph or scan of the finished work can be emailed to info@communityrailnorfolk.co.uk
