Network Rail will start work to upgrade electrical and mechanical systems inside three swing bridges this autumn, including for nine consecutive days in late October.

Changes are being introduced for the next two weeks on the rail route between King's Lynn, Cambridge and London King's Cross to give rail passengers more robust services while Network Rail repairs track defects caused by the recent heatwave.

An internal upgrade and refurbishment of Romford station has been completed including an improved entrance hall, ticket office and lift access to Elizabeth line platforms.

Essential rail upgrades are to take place on the Great Eastern Main Line and several branch lines this autumn and in the lead up to Christmas.

Passengers are advised to check before they travel this August Bank Holiday as Network Rail is set to carry out track, signalling and overhead wire works to improve Anglia’s rail network.

A Transport and Works Act Order (TWAO) application has been submitted to the Department for Transport to seek powers to upgrade seven level crossings as part of the £194 million Cambridge re-signalling programme.  

Vital track and signalling upgrades are planned at weekends throughout August and September to improve reliability and drive down delays.
