Network Rail have been training extra signallers with the help of a heritage centre as they aim to continue to move people who can’t work from home, like NHS staff, and vital freight throughout the coronavirus crisis.

Network Rail has thanked passengers for their patience and for only making essential journeys after they completed essential maintenance upgrades across Wales and the west.

Network Rail has taken just four weeks to transform an old depot in Newport, south Wales, into a state-of-the-art training centre to ensure it has enough skilled railway signallers across Wales and the west throughout the coronavirus crisis.

The historic Royal Albert Bridge which spans between Plymouth, Devon, and Saltash, Cornwall, was lit up tonight in blue as a show of support to the NHS.

Network Rail’s Reading station team have shown their appreciation for hard-working NHS staff across the country by creating a colourful stair display inside the station.

Network Rail’s Paddington station team have showed their appreciation for the NHS and their neighbours at St Mary’s Hospital by erecting a giant banner to the side of the station.

Network Rail will carry out vital maintenance and upgrades across Wales and the west this Easter to ensure it can continue to move critical freight and passengers, who are reminded to make essential journeys only.

Network Rail is calling on former or retired signallers in the Western route area to help keep the railway moving during the current coronavirus event.
