Network Rail has completed work to refurbish Portway railway bridge in Frome, with the road under the bridge now open again.

Newquay has a second platform in operation for the first time in 38 years today (Tuesday 18 November) as trains return to the branch line after Network Rail’s engineering work.

Passengers are advised to check before they travel on Friday (14 November) and throughout the weekend as Storm Claudia is expected to bring significant heavy rain to the south west.

Network Rail’s four-day track replacement between Bristol and Bath is complete. On Monday (27 October) engineers began work installing new rail, sleepers and stone through St Anne’s tunnel, working around the clock and finishing the job in the early hours of this morning (Friday 31 October), as planned.

Several projects on Network Rail’s Western route were named the winners at the annual awards ceremony held by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) South West, including three in Bristol and one in Devon.

Oxford is set to benefit as the Cowley Branch Line is brought back into use for passenger trains, connecting Cowley and Littlemore with the rail network for the first time since 1963 to offer faster, greener travel options for thousands of residents and workers across the city.
