For the first time since before astronauts walked on the moon, residents of the West of England and beyond will be able to catch trains to and from Ashley Down station.

Network Rail has reopened the Gunnislake branch line a day earlier than planned, with services able to use the line again this afternoon (Thursday 26 September) following a two-week closure for emergency repair work. 

Rail passengers are being asked to plan ahead this autumn and Christmas as Network Rail carries out engineering work on the Western route, which runs from Paddington to Penzance

The Office of Rail and Road today accepted Network Rail’s detailed plan to improve train performance across Wales & Western England.

The main span, stairs and lift shafts for the new accessible footbridge at Abergavenny station in Monmouthshire have been successfully installed by Network Rail and contractor Centregreat.

West of England Mayor Dan Norris has revealed the date that Bristol’s newest railway station, Ashley Down, will open. On Saturday (28 September) residents in the north of the city will have their own station once again after nearly 60 years. 

Network Rail Wales and Borders route director Nick Millington has been elected to the Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Engineering.

Nick was one of 71 leading figures in the field of engineering and technology named as new Fellows at the Academy’s AGM yesterday (17 September).

Great Western Railway services will be affected by improvement work taking place between Berkshire and Wiltshire this autumn and winter.
