In a first for rail freight in Britain, Network Rail has joined with key industry partners to tackle delays and safety risks in a boost for the country’s thriving freight sector.

• Brighter Journeys campaign will be rolled out across railway stations from 9-31 May in partnership with Chasing the Stigma
• The campaign hopes to lift peoples’ spirits amidst rising concerns over the effect of the pandemic, with nearly three quarters of UK adults (70%) revealing their mental health has been negatively impacted by the coronavirus   

A new online tool to help the rail industry measure the social value of its investments, infrastructure projects and day-to-day operations has been launched today.

• Network Rail to deliver 550 upgrade projects worth £70m to upgrade railway for passengers
• Majority of network will be open for business as usual, but some routes will be affected by the works taking place, so passengers are asked to check before they travel
• Passengers asked to wear a face covering if they can as a courtesy to others

Tremendous progress is being made by Network Rail and its supply chain on making green commitments, with 67% of suppliers now signed up to the Science Based Targets initiative to reduce their carbon footprint.
