Network Rail publishes autism friendly guide to travelling by train
Network Rail has produced a guide to help autistic people confidently and independently travel by train. It’s been developed in partnership with the National Autistic Society, after research was conducted with groups that represent passengers with specific needs, to look into additional ways the railway could be made more accessible for everyone.

- Over 16,000 people from 600 organisations took part in Rail Wellbeing Live 2021, the rail industry’s biggest event dedicated to health and wellbeing
- Fearne Cotton, Jason Fox, Rebecca Adlington and Paul Merson were among this year’s celebrity speakers
- All sessions are free to view online on-demand until Thursday 2 December.

Network Rail urges lorry drivers to ‘Wise Up, Size Up’ as Britain’s most-bashed bridges revealed
- Despite fewer trains and passengers on the rail network due to the Covid-19 pandemic, bridge strikes still cost Network Rail more than £5.5 million in delay and cancellation fees in 2020/21
- More than 1,600 bridges were hit over the year, with the most bashed - Coddenham Road bridge in Suffolk - struck 19 times
- In anticipation of a spike in incidents over Black Friday and the Christmas period, and an influx of newly qualified lorry drivers on Britain’s roads, ‘Wise Up, Size Up’ campaign is being rolled out reminding lorry drivers to check the height of their vehicles and plan their route in advance to avoid low bridges

Railway prepared for busy festive period as majority of network open for business as usual
- Vast majority of the rail network – over 95% – will be open for business as usual for passengers looking to travel by train over Christmas and New Year
- Most of the £131m upgrade work planned for when passenger trains don't run – such as overnight, Christmas Day and Boxing Day – to minimise disruption. But some routes will be affected by the essential work taking place, so passengers should plan ahead
- Passengers – who are asked to wear a face covering in busy indoor settings unless they are exempt – can continue to travel with confidence this Christmas
