Rail engineers expect to complete repair works on rail bridge in Manea ahead of weekend services
Engineers are undertaking urgent repair work on a rail bridge in the Manea area between Ely and Peterborough. An area of deterioration was found on the rail bridge structure during a regular inspection. To protect the safety of those using the 170 rail services that cross the bridge daily , we, in cooperation with our train operator partners, decided not to run services today between Ely and Peterborough.
Repairs have been progressing throughout the day and we expect the line to reopen for weekend services early Saturday morning.
Rail engineers working to repair a rail bridge in the Manea area to restore weekend services
Engineers are undertaking urgent repair work on a rail bridge in the Manea area to restore services as quickly as possible between Ely and Peterborough. Late last night, Network Rail, identified a fault following a regular survey of the bridge structure and in cooperation with our train operating partners, decided not to run passenger services between Ely and Peterborough to maintain the safety of passengers. This has allowed our engineers to carry out the urgent repair work which is expected to continue at least until the end of today. Engineers hope to be able to repair the fault in time for the weekend but further updates will be provided as work progresses.
