Passengers travelling from Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex are set to benefit from major rail upgrades this Easter as Network Rail carries out a package of work over the four-day period.

Network Rail and train companies are working to restore services across the Anglia route after heavy snow fall hit further south east than predicted. 

Network Rail has set out its winter weather plans as heavy snow is expected across East Anglia in the next few days.

Key rail works were completed last week (10 – 18 February) on the Norwich, Yarmouth, Lowestoft (Wherry lines) as part of Network Rail’s wider Railway Upgrade Plan.

Network Rail carried out a £1m package of strengthening work to a six–span railway bridge between Ely and Littleport last week to enable the smooth running of services and prevent future delays on the line between Ely and Kings Lynn.

Work to increase the height of a bridge over the Gospel Oak to Barking railway line in north London will take place this month to create extra space for the overhead lines underneath.

Network Rail’s Anglia route has set out its plan to invest more than £2 billion to enable more trains, faster services and better connections, while maintaining the performance, resilience and reliability of the rail network across the region in the five years from 2019-2024.

The next phase of work to upgrade the signalling system on the Norwich, Yarmouth and Lowestoft railway lines begins on Saturday 10 February as part of a £68million investment.
