Rail passengers urged to only travel by train if absolutely necessary due to coordinated strike action on 1, 5 and 8 October
As a result of coordinated industrial action starting this Saturday (1 October), Network Rail is warning passengers on its Western route – which covers the railway and towns and communities between Penzance and London Paddington – to expect extremely limited train services, only travel by train if absolutely necessary and plan ahead and check when their last train will depart.

Northern City Line closed on Sunday 9 October for further testing of digital signalling
Passengers intending to use the Northern City Line between Finsbury Park and Moorgate on Sunday 9 October are asked to plan ahead and check before they travel as work is taking place to further test digital signalling on the route.

Extremely limited trains at Leeds station during rail strikes
- Rail passengers in Yorkshire should only travel if necessary on Saturday 1, Wednesday 5 and Saturday 8 October during national strike action
- For the first time, RMT and ASLEF will strike on the same day resulting in the lowest service level since strikes began this Saturday (1 Oct)
- A special timetable will operate with very few trains in and out of Leeds station and many routes will be closed altogether

- A special, severely reduced timetable will operate along the East Coast Main Line between 7:30am and 6:30pm

- Rail passengers will not be able to travel north of York on Saturday 1 October or north of Newcastle on Saturday 8 October amid national strike action
- Passengers should plan ahead between Saturday 1 and Sunday 9 October
- A severely reduced timetable will operate on Wednesday 5 October between 7:30am and 6:30pm

Safety improvements in Bath protect both the railway and a bit of history
Network Rail has completed essential safety improvement work to the iconic low balustrade wall at Sydney Gardens in Bath, including the installation of railings to prevent trespassers from being able to gain access to the track.

Strike day timetable published for Saturday as passengers reminded to only travel by train if absolutely necessary
- With the RMT, Aslef and TSSA coordinating strike action on Saturday 1 October, only around 11% of services will operate, and there will be no trains at all across significant parts of the country
- Trains that do run will start later and finish much earlier than usual, so passengers are asked to only travel by rail if absolutely necessary. Those who must travel should expect disruption, plan ahead and check when their last train will depart
- Train drivers at 14 operators are also walking out on Wednesday 5 October, meaning disruption for passengers on those routes
- The RMT is then staging another walkout on Saturday 8 October
- Timetable for the Aslef strike on 5 October will be published on National Rail Enquiries later this week, while the timetable for Saturday 8 October will be published early next week
