Passengers using the busy platforms 13 and 14 at Manchester Piccadilly can look forward to more space as they wait for their train.

Network Rail has today announced it is encouraging contractors, suppliers and stakeholders to propose changes to its ‘standards’ – the detailed requirements that underpin how the railway and the delivery of improvement projects are run. The changes are to encourage greater innovation, cost efficiency and third party funding into the rail network, whilst maintaining safety.

At least 150 young people looking to move full steam ahead into the workplace will be given advice by rail industry employees as a partnership between Network Rail and Barnardo’s enters its final year.

Network Rail is set to carry safety improvements at Shepreth level crossing on Station Road in May as part of the company’s Railway Upgrade Plan.

Motorists and rail passengers can have their say on Network Rail’s proposals for a major upgrade to Yapton level crossing between Ford and Barnham in West Sussex. The crossing, which is used by 8,000 vehicles and 300 trains every weekday, will be upgraded from an automatic half-barrier crossing to a full-barrier crossing controlled by CCTV. 

A public meeting at Yapton Village Hall, Main Road, Yapton, BN18 0ET on Tuesday 24 April, 7.00-8.00pm will give crossing users the opportunity to hear more about the upgrade and its impact on road and rail traffic.

Network Rail has successfully reopened the rail line between Leeds and Ilkley after a landslip caused it to close last week.
