The Prime Minister was welcomed to Glasgow Central station this afternoon by Network Rail chief executive Andrew Haines as he boarded one of the green trains of the future being showcased at COP26.

More than 150,000 trees have been planted so far in a pledge to restore habitats and help tackle climate change during the building of new railway line between Oxford and Cambridge.

The next phase of work to improve the footbridge at Welwyn Garden City station will begin later this month.  

• Major work is taking place to upgrade signalling in Middlesbrough this month
• Control of signals will move from traditional signal boxes to York’s Rail Operating Centre to bring a modern, more reliable railway
• No trains to/from Middlesbrough from Saturday 13 to Monday 15 November – bus replacement services will keep passengers moving

Trudy Harrison MP, DfT minister and Member of Parliament for Copeland, was joined by Network Rail chief executive Andrew Haines this afternoon to get a closer look at the best of British low-carbon train technology at Glasgow Central station. 

Passengers at Edinburgh Waverley station can now get free and unlimited WiFi which is fast enough to support video calls and streaming. 

Network Rail has launched a competition to highlight some of the exciting Information Technology careers available at the organisation, and in the wider rail industry, to young people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds.

Customers are being thanked for their patience after work to provide smoother and more reliable journeys between Southampton and Bournemouth was completed on time.
