Congleton station has been improved for passengers after a major overhaul of its footbridge.

Engineers have saved £70m of taxpayers’ money by using creative new methods to build a railway flyover as part of the East West Rail project.

• Work will continue later this month to upgrade the track and signalling on London’s Northern City Line ready for it to be digitally signalled by 2023
• Trains between Finsbury Park and Moorgate will divert into London King’s Cross over next three weekends – passengers reminded to check their journey
• Work will also take place over Christmas, with changes to services from Monday 27 until Wednesday 29 December
• East Coast Digital Programme will boost reliability for passengers and reduce delays

More than 1,600 bridges were hit over the year, with the most bashed - Coddenham Road bridge in Suffolk - struck 19 times and one of three most hit in the top ten in the Anglia region.

Five railway workers based in York and Leeds have volunteered their time to build new facilities for St Michael’s Youth Project in Hull as part of the BBC’s DIY SOS: The Big Build programme for Children in Need.

Network Rail will shortly demolish the existing bridge under the Highland Mainline railway at Lynebeg, near Inverness, and replace it with a new structure. It is part of the advance works for the A9 Dualling: Tomatin to Moy project.
