The theft of railway cables caused over 10,000 minutes of delays to passengers across Wales and Borders in 2017 - a 240% increase on the previous year.

Passengers in Berkshire and Oxfordshire will benefit from more seats and better journeys as Network Rail delivered electrification to Didcot on December 27 as part of their Railway Upgrade Plan.

• Network Rail will be investing £160m in improving and upgrading the rail network over the Christmas period including largest ever signal data upgrade at Paddington.
• Passengers travelling from the west are advised to plan ahead as upgrade work means Paddington will have no train services running between December 24 and 27 inclusive (London underground services are unaffected)
• A reduced service to and from London Paddington will then be in operation from 28 December to 1 January inclusive

Passengers at stations across Wales and Borders are being invited to try out special ‘beer goggles’ which replicate the visual effects of drinking too much alcohol, as part of a campaign to highlight the dangers of intoxication when travelling on the rail network.

Enhancement works at Abergele and Pensarn station in North Wales have been completed by Network Rail.

Three lucky children took a festive train trip with Santa on the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways on Sunday [10 December] after winning a rail safety poster competition organised by Network Rail’s local level crossing team.
