Network Rail is using virtual reality technology to save time and money and improve safety as it prepares to redevelop one of Britain’s major stations.

The rail network reopened on time this morning after £30m of rail improvements were completed over the bank holiday weekend.

Passengers are being reminded that work in Chorley, which will enable electric trains to run between Manchester and Preston, will affect rail services between Preston and Bolton over the August bank holiday weekend.

Passengers are being advised to check before they travel this August bank holiday as improvement work will be taking place at locations across the network.

Members of the public are being invited to attend a drop-in-event to find out more about Network Rail’s work to replace Haslucks Green Road bridge in Shirley.

Network Rail is working with ecologists to carry out an extensive study into what impact the new railway upgrade between Oxford and Bedford will have on the local environment, paying particular attention to a rare species of bat known to roost in the local area.

The railway line between Banbury, Bicester and Leamington Spa reopened today after Network Rail completed a £76m upgrade to track and signalling on the Chiltern main line.
