Rail users on the north coast of Kent will soon benefit from step-free access at Herne Bay station as Network Rail announces accessibility upgrades starting next month.

Network Rail is advising Southeastern and London Overground passengers of changes to services and to plan ahead if travelling over Christmas due to a major programme of track and signalling upgrades in south London.

Network Rail’s Southern region has launched a new campaign reminding passengers that 'Behind Every Uniform is Someone Just Like You' after new data revealed an increase in verbal and physical assaults across stations.

Network Rail has successfully installed the two lift shafts which will be used to provide step-free access from the station concourse to the platforms at Plumstead station in south east London.

Rail Minister Huw Merriman today (Friday 8 September) formally opened Thanet Parkway, Kent’s first new railway station in eight years.

The railway reopened as planned earlier this morning following upgrade work to improve the reliability of New Cross junction, which controls the movement of trains in and out of London Bridge station.
