Demolition work is underway at a disused railway works in Kent to make room for a new train maintenance facility.

A 130-year-old bridge is about to be replaced by Network Rail as part of its programme of engineering works this August Bank Holiday, which will affect some journeys in Kent and South East London.

A shocking near miss with a group of walkers not far from Sevenoaks in Kent has sparked an appeal from Network Rail for people to take care around pedestrian crossings over the railway.

Network Rail and Southeastern are appealing to drivers in Kent to pay attention after there were 13 instances of people running flashing lights and dodging around closing barriers at East Farleigh level crossing in June and July – culminating in four incidents in four days.

Following two years of work and a nine-day closure of routes across South East London, new, more reliable signalling on the Sidcup, Grove Park and Bromley North lines through Hither Green has come into use.

An £81m scheme by Network Rail to renew infrastructure in the Hither Green area of South London has reached halfway and is on track to hand back a much-improved railway for passengers, while also marking the end of London Bridge Area Signalling Centre as an operational location.

Commuters from parts of South East London and Kent are being warned that their journeys to and from central London could take longer and peak time services will be busier during week-long engineering work at Hither Green.

Network Rail has joined with organisation Arches Local and artist Lionel Stanhope to brighten up a corner of Chatham, Kent, under local railway landmark the Luton Arches.
