Rail passengers using services in the South East can now check if their journeys over Christmas and the New Year will be affected by engineering works which will be taking place at Lewisham, New Cross and Slade Green.

Network Rail engineers are getting extra time to make improvements to two of London’s busiest railway lines thanks to lower passenger numbers during the second national lockdown.

Engineers completed extensive steel work repairs on the structure as well as repairing and replacing timber panels and supporting beans and brick work. The deck walkway has been renewed with an anti-slip surface and the structure has been repainted.

Network Rail is upgrading Snodland station by refurbishing the footbridge while tactile paving will also be installed along both platforms to improve use for passengers with visual impairment.

Bridges in Kent are being hit by high vehicles more than twice a week so Network Rail are reminding drivers to know the height of their vehicle before they set off or face tough penalties.

Engineers will be visiting the seaside this month - but not for a holiday. Old rails, sleepers and even the trackbed the railway sits on will be dug up and replaced through the Kent seaside town of Whitstable over the next two weekends.
