The first drills have broken ground to launch the next phase of electrification along the Midland Main Line between London and Wigston, Leicestershire.

Over the weekend (29-31 October), Network Rail updated an important railway junction in East Staffordshire to bring more reliable train journeys for passengers and freight services.

• National rail strikes planned for 5, 7 and 9 November will significantly reduce train services across the East Midlands
• Work on three major engineering projects between London and Luton will push ahead over the next two weekends (5 / 6 and 12 / 13 November)
• Passengers should plan ahead, check before travelling and only travel if necessary on strike days

A community in Nottinghamshire are being invited to a safety session after Network Rail has seen a rise in reckless behaviour at a popular level crossing.

Major investment to upgrade the railway between London and Luton will reach a key milestone this November, meaning changes to train services along the Midland Main Line.

Lincoln’s latest cohort of students have been taught a lesson in rail safety, after worrying CCTV footage shows a man stumble across a level crossing.

This weekend (Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 September), major work to upgrade a bridge near Kettering will make headway, eventually allowing cleaner and quieter electric trains to be introduced to this section of the Midland Main Line. 

• Rail passengers travelling in the East Midlands are urged to plan ahead this Thursday (18 Aug) and Saturday (20 Aug) as a very limited timetable will be available  
• Amid national industrial action, passenger trains will only run between 7:30am and 6:30pm and some routes will be closed completely  
• Passengers should check before they travel, expect disruption and only travel if necessary
