A new platform at Cardiff Central station designed to help ease congestion will be unveiled in the New Year-all part of Network Rail’s Railway Upgrade Plan.

More than a quarter of a million people used Birmingham New Street on Saturday (26 November), the highest ever number to have used the station in 24 hours.

Passengers travelling on the railway between Norwich and London and across to Cambridge are being asked to check before they travel, particularly at weekends as complex improvement works continue over Christmas and into 2017. This work will deliver vital railway upgrades for the Crossrail programme and remove long-standing heat related speed restrictions.

Four Network Rail Infrastructure Projects delivery teams have won the prestigious Sword of Honour award from the British Safety Council.

Passengers are being advised to plan their journeys in advance as the next phase of the major work to upgrade the line between Preston and Blackpool gets under way in January.

A new footbridge opened by Network Rail at Gomshall station in Surrey has been officially named ‘Rosa’s Bridge’ in honour of Rosa Sigal, a local landowner who left Germany in the 1930s after she lost her job because she was Jewish, and eventually settled in England.

With just under a month to go until Christmas, passengers are reminded to plan ahead and check before they travel this festive period and New Year as Network Rail carries out upgrades in and around London and the South East. Network Rail has also announced major improvement work taking place in August 2017 as it continues to rebuild London Bridge station as part of the Thameslink Programme.

Network Rail will hold two information events in Dringhouses and Copmanthorpe next week to inform people living near the railway of vegetation removal work.
