After a busy weekend of rail upgrades across the South East, all lines reopened yesterday morning ready for the rush hour.

Network Rail has released time-lapse footage of a huge project to improve the railway in Bradford, which took place over the Bank Holiday Weekend.

Services resumed as normal this morning between Guildford and Haslemere after Network Rail installed a new road bridge in Compton near Guildford as part of a £2 million investment.

Essential upgrades were completed over the bank holiday weekend as part of a £250m programme to upgrade the overhead wiring system between Chelmsford and London Liverpool Street, which will provide a more reliable service for passengers travelling between Norwich and London.

A historic bell located at the top of Runcorn’s iconic Britannia railway bridge has been removed by helicopter ahead of a full restoration by Network Rail.

The railway between London and Scotland via the West Midlands and north west has fully reopened after a number of upgrade projects were successfully completed on time.

Network Rail has completed two major infrastructure milestones on the East Coast Main Line (ECML) ready for the introduction of new InterCity Express Passenger (IEP) trains later this year.
