With the country expected to enjoy one of the hottest May bank holidays on record this weekend, special preparations are being made to help keep Scotland’s railway on the move.

A temporary road closure will be in place at Station Road in Hele, Devon, from Tuesday 29 May as Network Rail is planning to carry out a flood resilience project in the area. Flooding has been a long standing problem in and around Hele, and a scheme has been developed which will not only reduce the risk of flooding to the railway, but also to nearby homes and businesses.

Young people in Christchurch are putting themselves at serious risk of being killed or seriously injured on the railway with repeated recent reports of groups jumping into the River Stour from a railway bridge.

Residents of Oxford have been invited to a drop-in ahead of work to improve capacity and reliability through the city as part of Network Rail’s Oxford Corridor railway upgrade plan.

Residents in and around Pilning near Bristol are being invited to a drop in session about railway electrification work in the area as part of the London Paddington to Cardiff upgrade that will bring passengers faster, greener, more frequent and quieter journeys from 2019.

Customer groups, transport and Northern stakeholders will be invited to contribute to the report.
