Temporary speed limits are being put in place on the railway in Cumbria and North Lancashire this evening to keep passengers safe as weather conditions worsen.

Engineers have worked around the clock over the last four days to replace the deck of a 129-year-old bridge, as part of a series of improvements on the Heart of Wessex line between Weymouth and Yeovil Pen Mill.

Motorists are being advised about a major bridge upgrade over the railway between Crewe and Chester.

The Gospel Oak to Barking line has reopened today (Wednesday 19 February) following completion of extensive repairs following a derailed freight wagon.

Network Rail has worked around the clock on the Wales and Borders route following Storm Dennis to reopen lines affected by flooding, although some closures and disruption remains in place with more heavy rain forecast this week.

Passengers will start to see a benefit from the investment being made to introduce eight-car services on the Fen line between Cambridge and King’s Lynn.  

Network Rail has reopened the lines at Rotherham Central station this afternoon (Monday, 17 February) following severe flooding to the railway.

Following good progress by engineers over the weekend, despite Storm Dennis, services on the Gospel Oak to Barking line are expected to resume on Wednesday 19 February.
