Network Rail today revealed details of a series of projects, worth nearly £40m, aimed at improving the reliability of the infrastructure and punctuality of train services on Britain’s busiest mixed-use railway line.

Work has started to provide passengers at Brentwood with step-free access between the station entrance and the platforms, making the railway more accessible for everyone.

With just a month to go before the biggest change to the railway in Nottingham for more than 40 years begins, passengers are being advised to find out more about how their journeys will be affected.

Construction workers rebuilding Birmingham New Street station are being shown how to live a healthier lifestyle. Network Rail and delivery partner Mace have been working together to raise awareness of the health and well being of the workforce on what is one of the largest construction projects in the West Midlands.

Cyclists in Derby are being offered advice on how to keep their bikes safe as part of National Bike Week. Teams from British Transport Police and Network Rail will be working with their partners East Midland Trains, Derbyshire Constabulary and Derby Cycle Group at Derby station on Tuesday 18^th and Thursday 20^th June from 5-7pm. As well as tips on protecting their bikes, cyclists will be offered information about using level crossings safely.

Improvements to Selby swing bridge and two rail bridges in Hull have been re-planned following a spoil heap slip on the main diversionary route. The rail industry has worked together to re-plan the work in order to minimise the impact on the travelling public.

Network Rail has revealed details of the scale of the technical work being undertaken to repair the railway close to Hatfield Colliery. The line was severely damaged when a spoil heap became destabilised in February.
