Work to repair the landslip beneath the railway between Kilmarnock and Dumfries is now getting underway following damage sustained during Storm Ciara.

On the morning of Wednesday 19 February, a landslip caused damage to the tracks between Billericay and Wickford on the Southend Victoria line. Ballast, the stones that help keep tracks safely in place, had fallen away under a section of track.

Network Rail’s engineers are working to repair the damage to the tracks and the embankment. With the line already planned to close this weekend for overhead line upgrade work, we expect all repairs to be completed for normal service to resume on Monday 24 February.

Engineers continue to assess the damage caused by a landslip between Salisbury and Dean on Tuesday afternoon, 18 February.

With the wet weather continuing in the North West and Cumbria this weekend rail passengers are being advised to check before they travel.

Network Rail continues its work across Wales following Storm Ciara and Storm Dennis to repair and reopen the lines affected. A reduced number of closures and disruptions remain in place.

A plaque has been unveiled today (Thursday, 20 February) at Cleethorpes station to celebrate the completion of a £410,000 restoration project of the clock tower.
