A programme of upgrade works will be taking place this autumn on the main line between Stratford and Shenfield to improve reliability of passenger journeys and prepare for the start of Elizabeth line services.

Network Rail has launched two independent task forces, led by world renowned experts, to help it better manage its massive earthworks (cuttings and embankments) portfolio and its understanding and response to severe weather events.

Network Rail is announcing the first phase of public consultation for proposals to upgrade the railway in and around Ely which opens on 21 September and will run for six weeks.

• Network Rail engineering works will affect some services in SW London and Surrey as track and other equipment set for renewal
• Passengers should check their journey before they travel as some South Western Railway and Southern services will be affected.
• Those who are travelling by rail should wear a face covering unless they are exempt. Passengers should also travel at quieter times and maintain a distance from others wherever possible

British Transport Police (BTP) and Network Rail are appealing for any information from the public in connection with dangerous and malicious behaviour on the railway in Desborough, Northamptonshire.

• Most of the railway in Sussex and south London will remain open over the bank holiday weekend (29 – 31 August) but some routes will be affected

A “lost” sculpture originally created for the Festival of Britain is coming back to London Waterloo station after almost 70 years, thanks to Network Rail and Historic England.

A 130-year-old bridge is about to be replaced by Network Rail as part of its programme of engineering works this August Bank Holiday, which will affect some journeys in Kent and South East London.
