Essential rail upgrades are to take place on the Great Eastern Main Line and several branch lines this autumn and in the lead up to Christmas.

Network Rail will shortly begin tree and vegetation management on the line between Aberdour and Kirkcaldy.

Network Rail engineers have successfully completed upgrades to Littlehaven level crossing and now have the bank holiday weekend to complete final stages of work at Parsonage Road level crossing in Horsham while the railway is less busy.

Volunteers from Network Rail are doing their bit to support local wildlife by working with the Cornish Birds of Prey Centre to supply materials and assist with the building of an aviary – a bird enclosure with space for them to stretch their wings – as well as a new wild bird hospital. 

Overnight traffic management will be in place from September 4 to 9 on the B817 in Alness and Evanton in the Scottish Highlands as Network Rail carries out essential vegetation management.

Network Rail engineers will work around-the-clock over the next two weekends to upgrade a vital junction at the heart of Scotland’s rail network.

Scottish Government Transport Minister Jenny Gilruth visited the site of the first new feeder station to be commissioned as part of a £120m investment to boost the electricity supply into the railway network.
