Thousands of railway staff and hundreds of extra services stand ready to welcome huge numbers over the weekend and on Monday as the nation continues to gather to pay its last respects to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

As the nation mourns, thousands of people will be coming together in the days ahead to pay their respects to Her Majesty The Queen.

Volunteers from Network Rail teamed up with the TransWilts Community Rail Partnership and Knorr-Bremse, a leading manufacturer of rail safety systems, to improve the environment around Melksham station in Wiltshire, including the area outside the popular Melksham Hub Café.

This weekend (Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 September), major work to upgrade a bridge near Kettering will make headway, eventually allowing cleaner and quieter electric trains to be introduced to this section of the Midland Main Line. 

Buses replace trains for five weeks from Monday 12 September, between Machynlleth and Pwllheli, while essential upgrades are safely carried out on the iconic northwest Wales railway bridge.

Beverley station’s 130-year-old Grade II-listed footbridge will close this week to keep station users, train drivers and passengers safe, before being sympathetically refurbished next year.
