              Network Rail announces completion of work on first phase of North West electrification
Electric trains will be able to run between Manchester Airport and Scotland from December 2013, Network Rail said today, as it announced completion of the first phase of the £400m North West electrification programme.
 
              Rail line at Hatfield & Stainforth reopens
Passenger and freight trains are once again running through Hatfield & Stainforth. The railway was forced to close after a spoil heap slip at Hatfield Colliery and engineers have relocated approximately one million cubic metres of material in order to restore services.
 
              Network Rail on track for Hatfield & Stainforth line re-opening
Passengers will be able to get a train through Hatfield & Stainforth on Monday 8 July. Work to restore the line is progressing as planned with engineers working around the clock to hand back the railway on time. Freight and passenger trains will recommence service through Hatfield & Stainforth from 5am. 
HS2 will form heart of re-shaped railway for Britain, says Network Rail
Network Rail has today welcomed the Government’s announcement on the proposed route of HS2 phase 2 as a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform both the railway and connectivity in this country.
 
              Network Rail’s plans for faster, more frequent rail services across the North
Councillors and business leaders from across Manchester and Salford last night viewed Network Rail’s plans for improved rail travel in the North. At an event in the Museum of Science and Industry, the new Ordsall Chord, a scheme to connect Manchester’s Piccadilly, Oxford Road and Victoria stations, was unveiled to stakeholders ahead of this week’s public consultation.
