For one week this September, Network Rail signaller Wayne Dixon, based in Exeter, will be swapping trains for two wheels as he takes up the challenge of a 359-mile sponsored cycle ride, raising money for Rowcroft Hospice in Torquay.

Volunteers from Network Rail teamed up with the TransWilts Community Rail Partnership and Knorr-Bremse, a leading manufacturer of rail safety systems, to improve the environment around Melksham station in Wiltshire, including the area outside the popular Melksham Hub Café.

Network Rail is urging passengers to check before travelling and to plan ahead, with four consecutive weekends of disruption to train services due to start this weekend.

Network Rail is teaming up with the British Transport Police (BTP) and Festival Republic, the organisers of this weekend’s Reading Festival, to set up a safe space at Reading station as part of a campaign against sexual violence.

Volunteers from Network Rail are doing their bit to support local wildlife by working with the Cornish Birds of Prey Centre to supply materials and assist with the building of an aviary – a bird enclosure with space for them to stretch their wings – as well as a new wild bird hospital. 

Today (Wednesday 17 August) the Department for Transport confirmed it has awarded £78.6m to Network Rail to support the redevelopment of Oxford station and railway, helping provide a bigger and better station, more services for passengers and freight, and improved journey times for passengers in the future.
