A new footpath to provide alternative access to the closed Robinswood level crossing opens to the public today, reuniting the twin communities of Tredworth and Robinswood.

A new collaboration has been announced today which will oversee the project to allow fast train services to operate between Oxford and London Marylebone. The first services are expected to start in two years time.

- £33m investment to improve railway structures on the Western route and to boost jobs and economies
- 135 jobs already created from this package of work
- £280m of work to businesses in the south west of England last year; 17% of the money to small to medium-sized businesses

• 177 people slipped, tripped or fell at Paddington station in the year
• More incidents occurred at Paddington than at any other railway station in London
• Campaign reminds passengers to take extra care when they travel home

The Chancellor visited a railway site on Friday, 12 July, to welcome the progress made on the £45m Swindon to Kemble investment scheme. He saw the improvement work entering a vital stage as new sets of switches and crossings were being assembled for installation this summer.

Network Rail has won a Green Apple Award for its work protecting biodiversity during the design and construction for a new flyover at Heathrow Junction, as part of the Crossrail project.

A refurbished historic footbridge at Chester railway station is to be officially re-opened by Network Rail on Thursday, 6 June 2013.
