A DAY’S WORK FOR 120 YEARS OF RAIL BENEFITS

It may have been standing for over a century, but thanks to a new method of bridge replacement, the Pill Bridge, in Avonmouth was replaced by Network Rail in just eight hours. This technique, being piloted in the West Country for the first time, forms part of Network Rail’s ambitions to complete engineering work in less time.

The South West of England have received a cash injection of more than £3.6m from Network Rail to makeover five unsightly railway bridges. These bridges, which have been blighted by graffiti, fly posters and pigeons, will be thoroughly cleaned and re-painted to bring them back to their former splendour.

Network Rail is toughening its measures to tackle railway crime. It is installing over 4000 metres of fencing around the railway in the South West, to make it more difficult for trespassers or those looking to commit crimes such as vandalism or graffiti to access the railway.
