A vital project to protect the future of the railway Oxted in Surrey to Uckfield and East Grinstead in Sussex is racing ahead.

Vital work to remove and reconstruct a footbridge at Eridge station in East Sussex took place over the weekend. The work was needed due to the age and condition of the old structure, in order to protect the safety of those using the bridge and the trains operating below.

Network Rail has completed extensive modification and refurbishment to the network at the site of Newhaven Marine Station, developing rail freight capacity and supporting a low-carbon economy by removing the need for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) on local roads.

Improvements for passengers who use Peckham Rye station have moved a step closer this week with Network Rail receiving £1m from the Department for Transport to develop designs for a more accessible station with more capacity and better facilities for passengers.

Network Rail has partnered with community groups and Millwall Football Club to celebrate the historic club crest of the leaping lion which has been used since 1936.

Passengers in Sussex will feel the benefits of a major renewal and refurbishment to Oxted Viaduct and a footbridge replacement in Eridge, a village on the Uckfield branch of the Oxted line.

Platform extensions have been installed at Cooksbridge, Lancing and Goring-By-Sea to support the £150m Gatwick Airport station upgrade, which will also improve accessibility and reduce overcrowding and delays for commuters and leisure travellers across the South East.

One year after unveiling a mural celebrating the 400^th anniversary of famed Shakespearean actor Richard Burbage, Network Rail has partnered with community groups and Dulwich Sports Club to celebrate sports past and present.
