Works to repair and reopen Lamington Viaduct on the West Coast Mainline are progressing ahead of schedule after engineers successfully raised the bridge-deck back into position.

• Limited service withdrawals announced for Friday as winds of up to 90mph forecast to hit railway.

Passengers are back on track on the Glasgow-Stranraer line today after engineers completed vital works to stabilise the flood-damaged Laggansarroch Viaduct.

UK Government Rail Minister Claire Perry and Scottish Government Transport Minister Derek Mackay joined Network Rail managing director for Scotland Phil Verster at Lamington today to see the ongoing operation to repair a vital viaduct on the West Coast Mainline.
